The ultimate journey of the Colonel Médécin ® MPOUDI NGOLE Eitel

Never has the death of a great officer of the Cameroonian army of the caliber of Colonel MPOUDI NGOLE Eitel, a retired physician, affected the morale of his comrades in arms, the national and international scientific community. This brilliant officer retired on September 23, 2021 in Yaoundé and marked his time by inscribing in indelible letters, his name on the stele of Cameroonian and African researchers who have given everything to posterity to perpetuate scientific research.

On Saturday, October 23, 2021, his nuclear family, his friends, his scientific hierarchy and his fellow researchers from all walks of life, gathered with great sadness in Manengouba 2, his native village, in the Department of Moungo (in Cameroon) to accompany him to his final resting place.

A strong delegation of veterans, former soldiers and victims of war, led by retired Battalion Chief OSSONGO ADA Jean Léonard, Deputy Director General of ONACAM representing the Director General of ONACAM at this funeral ceremony, paid tribute to the memory of their comrade in arms and worthy fighter that was Colonel Doctor ® MPOUDI NGOLE.

Several members of the Government, notably the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation as well as some administrative authorities also took part in this farewell ceremony.

It was the moment of a painful separation for all those who knew him, loved him and shared his know-how and his love for research to which he devoted his whole life. The poignant testimonies of the various speakers revealed the man as he was: an experienced and competent military doctor at the service of the Armed Forces and the entire Nation. The results of his scientific research continue to echo beyond national borders to the point of interest to the international scientific community.

A proven, wise and tireless researcher, he has had a highly commendable academic and professional career [For more information, click here]. He was able to bring a smile to the faces of many patients in distress. As a health professional, he was one of the strong links in the Cameroonian Defence Forces' health services. Jovial and pleasant, he knew how to spread good humour to those around him. A great unifier with an outstanding humanism, he was a true ray of love, generosity and solidarity. A devoted family man, he made the education of his children a point of honour to the point of being an example for the younger generation.

Military honors were rendered to him by a detachment of the Ground Artillery Regiment (RASS). During this military funeral ceremony, the retired Battalion Chief OSSONGO ADA Jean Leonard, Deputy Director General of the National Office of Veterans, Ex-Servicemen and Victims of War of Cameroon, in his funeral oration, portrayed the deceased as an illustrious senior officer; a great man with undeniable and exceptional moral, technical and professional values.  The speaker presented the Colonel as one of those who brought their cornerstone to the progress of the Military Health Services in Cameroon. He put his skills at the service of humanity. A very good comrade, he was a friend to all.

The national and international scientific community is aware of the contribution of this great officer in the field of research; that is why it paid him a tribute on October 21, 2021 at the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation under the chairmanship of the Head of this department, Mrs. Madeleine TCHUENTE and in the presence of his colleagues.

His merits were recognized by the Head of State, His Excellency Paul BIYA who posthumously raised him to the dignity of Grand Officer of the Order of Valor because of his skills and the results of his research. The medal was hung on his coffin by the Minister herself
Unanimously, Colonel Doctor ® MPOUDI NGOLE Eitel was entitled to deserved tributes, worthy of a Man of Science of his rank.

He leaves behind him, a grieving biological family as well as a saddened military and scientific family.

His works are immense. His passage in the great military and scientific family will remain forever engraved in the hearts of his comrades in arms and of all those who knew and loved him.
