Evaluation mission on ONACAM’s operations for enhancing governance and efficiency

Yaoundé, Wednesday, 12 November 2025, The National Office of War Veterans, Ex-Servicemen and War Victims of Cameroon (ONACAM) hosted an important delegation from the Ministry of Defence at the Veterans’s guest house known as ‘Maison du Combattant’ of Yaoundé dispatched as part of an evaluation and strategic support mission.

Led by Commander ABANDA MINKADA Jean Jacques, Head of Mission, the delegation included several representatives of the technical services of the Ministry of Defense. The said mission instructed by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defense, is part of monitoring and evaluation process under the coordination of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence.

A first of its kind, this mission was well received by the General Direction that seized this opportunity to evaluate the current state of affairs.

In his opening speech, the General Director expressed his gratitude to the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in Charge of Defence, who also chairs ONACAM’s Board of Directors, for the attention given to the Institution. He commended the promptness with which the mission had been deployed, describing it as a significant gesture of support and institutional confidence.

On this occasion, he paid tribute to His Excellency BETI ASSOMO Joseph, whose unwavering commitment to War Veterans, Ex-Servicemen and War Victims, translate into concrete initiatives aimed at improving their living conditions and strengthening the protection of the rights of ONACAM’s staff.

The Director General presented to the delegation the context behind ONACAM’s creation, its role, its missions, and the strategic importance of its action in supporting those who have served the Nation, as well as their widows and orphans. He also outlined the Institution’s priority needs and the challenges it currently faces.

Throughout the discussions, the Ministry of Defence mission conducted an in-depth analysis of the Office’s functioning and operational constraints. The Head of Mission assured that the concerns raised had been duly noted and would be reported in detail to the Hierarchy.

Commander ABANDA MINKADA Jean Jacques expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the discussions and the warm welcome received. He announced that realistic proposals would be put forward to support ONACAM’s operational enhancement. Additional working sessions will be scheduled to develop concrete resolutions aimed at equipping the Office with required resources to fully carry out its missions and contribute effectively to the well-being of its beneficiaries.

The meeting ended in a warm atmosphere, highlighted by a group photograph on the steps of the Maison du Combattant, symbolizing the shared commitment to strengthening social support for the benefit of War Veterans and War Victims.
